In a strategic move, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has appointed Mahua Moitra as District Chief in her Krishnanagar constituency. This decision is part of a broader initiative where the party has named new District Presidents across West Bengal and assigned some members to the post of State Secretary.

A press release from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) highlighted, “The AITC, under the guidance and inspiration of our Hon’ble Chairperson Smt. Mamata Banerjee is pleased to announce the list of new District Presidents across West Bengal.”

This development coincides with the Lok Sabha Ethics Panel recommending the expulsion of Mahua Moitra from the lower House in connection with “cash for query” allegations. The TMC’s decision to appoint her as District Chief indicates the party’s continued support for Moitra.

The release further stated, “We are also pleased to announce the appointments of some members to the post of State Secretary.” Mridul Goswami, Shaoni Singha Roy, Kanai Chandra Mandal, and Soumen Mohapatra have been appointed as State Secretaries.

The leadership reshuffle comes amid increased scrutiny on TMC, with the recent arrest of Jyotipriya Mallick, a TMC Minister, by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with alleged corruption in the public distribution system. The TMC seems to be navigating these challenges by making strategic organizational changes across the state.
