In a tragic incident, a 60-year-old man lost his life to a tiger attack in Chinchada village, located in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district. The victim, identified as Suryaban Tikle and a resident of Chinchada, was attacked by the big cat while he was on his farm. Chief Conservator of Forest, Dr. Jitendra Ramgaonkar, reported that forest officials discovered Tikle’s body in compartment no-522 within the Forest Development Corporation Limited (FDCM) area. His remains were then sent to the local rural hospital.
To address the situation and ensure the safety of the local community, authorities have taken several measures. Camera traps have been set up to monitor the tiger’s movements, and a specialized PRT (Problem Response Team) has been deployed to the area. As a precautionary measure, farming activities in the region have been temporarily suspended. Additional personnel have been stationed to prevent any further incidents.
Dr. Ramgaonkar stated, “The capture of the big cat will be proposed based on its history and behavior once it is identified with the help of camera traps.”
This marks the sixteenth man-animal conflict-related death in the district this year. Of these, 13 have been attributed to tiger attacks, highlighting the ongoing challenges of human-wildlife coexistence in the region.
