Popular food delivery platform Swiggy has unveiled an intriguing report detailing the findings of its internal analysis on vegetarian food trends. Curious about which city tops the list for the highest number of vegetarian orders placed through Swiggy? It’s Bengaluru. “Bangalore isn’t just the Silicon Valley of India – it’s the Veggie Valley too,” the company stated. According to the report, one in every three vegetarian orders on Swiggy comes from this bustling capital city, with Masala Dosa, Paneer Biryani, and Paneer Butter Masala being the top vegetarian dishes ordered.
Mumbai holds the second spot for the highest number of vegetarian orders, with popular dishes including Dal Khichdi, Margherita Pizza, and Pav Bhaji. Hyderabad ranks third, where Masala Dosa and Idli are the most favored food orders. Swiggy’s report also provides a pan-India perspective, revealing that six out of the top ten most-ordered dishes nationwide are vegetarian. Among these top dishes are Masala Dosa, Paneer Butter Masala, Margherita Pizza, and Pav Bhaji.
The report sheds light on other interesting categories as well. Breakfast is described as “the golden hour for vegetarian orders,” with more than 90% of breakfast orders on Swiggy being vegetarian. The most popular breakfast items include Masala Dosa, Vada, Idli, and Pongal. The report highlights that “Masala Dosa enjoys nationwide popularity and is a popular choice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.” Another notable insight from the analysis is that over 60,000 vegetarian salads are ordered weekly on Swiggy.
Swiggy released these findings as part of its inaugural Green Dot Awards, which aim to celebrate the restaurants offering the best vegetarian food across India.
