SRINAGAR: Third phase of the current District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir concluded on Friday in the 33 segments, 16 in Kashmir Valley and 17 in Jammu region.
State Election Commissioner K.K. Sharma said on Friday evening that 50.53% was percentage in this phase.
While Kashmir recorded 31.61 percent turnout, 68.88 percent electors cast their ballots in the Jammu division, official data shared by Sharma on Twitter read. A total of 3,72,643 votes comprising those by 1,99,544 men and 1,73,099 women were polled as per the data.
Kulgam district in south Kashmir recorded the highest turnout of 64.45 percent in the Valley. Overall, Reasi district of Jammu division recorded the highest turnout of 75.20 percent.
Large number of people, especially women, came out to vote in the three segments of DDC in Ganderbal as the PAGD is pitted against the BJP and the JK Apni Party in this district.
Similarly, there was a low voter turnout in the four DDC segments of South Kashmir, 2 each in Pulwama and Shopian. In South Kashmir, at Sagam near the health resort of Kokernag, the JK Apni Party candidate contesting the DDC elections was shot at and was hospitalised. In the earlier two phases, less number of people came out to vote in South Kashmir.
In the Jammu region, however, a large number of people came out to vote and the voting percentage was much higher than Kashmir Valley.
