Dr Subramanian Swamy spoke exclusively to The Daily Guardian and explained his interest in ensuring that a fair investigation is done in the Sushant Singh Rajput case. He has written to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for a CBI inquiry and the letter has been acknowledged by the PM himself. Excerpts:

Q: What is the update on the Sushant Singh Rajput death probe?

A: Bihar Police has turned up. His father apparently told the Bihar Police that he (Rajput) had no internal turmoil or depression. Once Bihar Police turns up in Mumbai, CBI is inescapable. Can’t have two agencies investigating the same crime. It’s good for everyone for the CBI to investigate. Mumbai Police should recommend it. They are busy with corona.

Q: You have alleged that there is a Dubai link, not just with Bollywood but also with the state’s politicians.

A: Why is the state’s Home Minister (who is from the NCP) against a CBI inquiry? And then he is giving a running commentary as to who is being questioned and who is not. That is not the job of the Home Minister. This shows a certain nervousness of the outcome.

Q: You have also stated that Sushant changed 50 SIM cards.

A: Yes, I have been asked as to how I know this, but if I know so should the investigating agencies. It’s their job to know. His servant has also said that Sushant often slept in his car. What was he scared of? All these things don’t add up to voluntary suicide. I don’t understand the resistance to a CBI inquiry. In the Indrani Mukherjea case, they immediately opted for a CBI inquiry. There is a national upsurge to know the truth.

Q: How did you get interested in the case?

A: Judging from the evidence that came on record, there seemed to be some haste in concluding the matter.

Few things alerted my attention. First is that after his body was taken to the morgue, I was a bit surprised because RC Cooper Hospital is really meant for road accidents so why take him there? Even there, the three doctors who examined him said death is due to asphyxiation which means robbed of his breath. That could mean death by hanging or it could be by someone squeezing his neck. They also said that the postmortem was provisional; yet the next day, they cremated his body. What was the hurry? This was the first thing that alerted me because he was a superstar, he was a celebrity and also someone who was getting threats to fall in line, that there is a cartel in Bollywood and three names were given… all of whom share the last name Khan. There is no religion in this because there are others who are with them who are Hindus. Ishkaran (Bhandari and Kangana Ranaut’s lawyer) who is looking into the case, found out that the flat he had been found in was not sealed. Even in Sunanda’s (Pushkar) case, the hotel room was sealed. This is a case where injustice is being done. Even if it was suicide, was it induced suicide, was it assisted suicide? We want to know which it was. Was he driven to it? We are told that many of his contracts got cancelled and he was told his career is over. Therefore, I have taken up his case to see that justice is being done.

Q: Well, the conspiracy theory is that the BJP-RSS is interested in this as it wants to sideline the three Khans.

A: Intellectuals belonging to the RSS pool have been writing about it because a lot of the nation’s money goes into the making of films. And don’t forget I am a two-term MP from Mumbai North East. I have knowledge of how things were happening in those days when Haji Mastan was there. But today, Bollywood has become a major money-laundering activity. And even the Pakistanis have got into the act because they are experts in money laundering. Now, it is a national security issue; it is no more just about the film world. Take a look at Sridevi’s death. I would have liked to go into that as well because she was from Tamil Nadu and I knew her, but I couldn’t as it happened in Dubai. And there are many other unreported mysterious deaths that are hushed up. Why is this happening in Bollywood?
