"There Will Be Changes...": Sreesanth Feels Chahal Should Be Included in India's Playing XI in Super 8s Stage

Former Indian pacer Sreesanth anticipates a shift in the composition of India’s bowling attack as the team moves to the Caribbean islands for the ‘Super 8s’ stage of the ICC T20 World Cup. He believes that star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal should be included in India’s playing eleven once they transition to the Caribbean.

India initially selected four spinners for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, but their bowling strategy in the first three games has predominantly relied on pace. Despite having four frontline spinners, India utilized spin sparingly in their matches at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

Sreesanth highlights that with the change of location to the Caribbean, there is an expectation of a shift in the bowling attack’s composition. He suggests that Chahal could potentially replace one of the spinners in the playing XI for the Super 8s stage.

Axar Patel’s all-round performance further complicates the selection process for India, as he has been contributing significantly with both bat and ball. Sreesanth emphasizes that Rahul Dravid, the head coach, understands the necessary changes for the West Indies conditions, which is why India opted for four spinners initially.

With India’s unbeaten streak in the tournament so far, securing three wins in three games, they have comfortably advanced to the Super 8 round. Despite facing tough challenges from Pakistan and the United States in low-scoring encounters in New York, India has showcased resilience.

The victory over the USA solidified India’s place in the Super 8s of the tournament. Their upcoming match against Canada in the last group-stage encounter will be crucial before transitioning to the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Florida for the next phase of the competition.
