Veteran Congress leader Digvijaya Singh spoke exclusively to The Daily Guardian and said that there is no trust deficit within the party and issues will be resolved amicably. Excerpts
Q: How do you see this letter bomb hurled at the grand old party?
A: I don’t accept that this is a letter bomb on the party, neither do I think that there is a trust deficit within the party. There are issues and those will be resolved. I am also amazed at the way the CWC meet was reported in the media.
Q: Your comments on senior Congress colleagues signing a letter against the party leadership.
A: I personally believe that those who have problems should raise their issues in the CWC and other party forums. Senior Congress leaders who have some issues in the party’s functioning should keep the issues on right forums.
Q: Some of the Congress members have raised their voices against the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, saying that he couldn’t win two back-to-back general elections?
A:Those who are raising questions on his ability as a leader should go back in history. When Rahul Gandhi was president, we won Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh elections. There is no need to doubt his ability.
Q:Coming back to the point of rift in the party, you have been an old hand as far as organisation is concerned, what would you suggest?
A: I believe that the rift would be over soon and I firmly believe that Sonia Gandhi and the CWC would solve all the ongoing crises within the party.
