18-year-old Tamil musician Lydian Nadhaswaram, who is known as a prodigy, is composing music for his debut film ‘Barroz’ starring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. ‘Barroz’ is directed my Mohanlal as well and is based on the novel ‘Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure’ by Jiji Punnoose.
Lydian shared the first video of him conducting the orchestra in Macedonia and recording for Mohanlal’s film on his social media. He wrote on (formerly twitter), “With love and respect to all music lovers, composers and great musicians around the world. My first orchestral recording for my debut movie #barroz directed by Shri. @mohanlal sir! It was an honour and an absolute pleasure to come all the way to Skopje, Macedonia and to conduct the @famesproject Studio Orchestra for the first time! Many thanks to Mr. Andrew T McKay for making this happen! Here is a glimpse of the recording session! Need all your blessings for my healthy musical life.”
The young man, who has had a passion for music from the age of two years, studied at AR Rahman’s music school KM Music Conservatory fort four years. In 2019, he appeared on The World’s Best on CBS and won. He earned a prize money of USD $1 million.
Music director Mark Kilian (who hails from South Africa) has also been roped in from Hollywood to compose music for the film. Kilian is known for Eye in the Sky (2015), Pitch Perfect (2012) and Traitor (2008).
‘Barroz’ will also feature Maya, Sara Vega, Tuhin Menon, Padmavathi Rao, Komal Sharma, Guru Somasundaram, and Cesar Lorente Raton in crucial roles. It is being made in 3D and is a children’s film. The movie is bankrolled by Antony Perumbavoor, under the banner Aashirvaad Cinemas.
The movie’s screenplay is written by Jijo Punnoose, the original author of the novel. Legendary cinematographer Santosh Sivan is wielding the camera. While Sreekar Prasad is on board as the film’s editor.
The movie has been shot in Kochi, Goa, Chennai and Bangkok.
