Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed disappointment on Thursday with President Droupadi Murmu’s joint session address to Parliament, noting it lacked focus on current issues. Tharoor criticized the mention of the Emergency, calling it irrelevant after 49 years, and emphasized the need for addressing contemporary concerns like the NEET exam and unemployment. He highlighted the absence of discussions on critical topics such as the India-China border and issues specific to Manipur from both President Murmu and PM Modi.

President Murmu, in her address earlier that day, had condemned the imposition of the Emergency in 1975 under Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, describing it as a grave assault on the Constitution. She assured the nation that significant economic, social, and historical decisions would be unveiled during the upcoming Parliament sessions, particularly in the Union Budget. Murmu underscored the stability of the current government and its mandate, pledging transformative policies aligned with national aspirations.
