Near a temple in Badlapur, Thane district, Maharashtra, a man has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly assaulting his friend with a chopper following a quarrel. The incident occurred on January 24 during a gathering where the 42-year-old victim, the accused, and other friends were consuming alcohol.
According to reports, a dispute erupted among them, leading the accused, a 45-year-old man in an inebriated state, to confront the victim about blocking his mobile phone number. Subsequently, the accused purportedly attacked the victim with a chopper, causing injuries to his chest, hands, and jaws. The victim, currently undergoing treatment in a hospital, filed a police complaint on Sunday.
Based on the complaint, the Badlapur police registered a case against the accused under Indian Penal Code sections 307 (attempt to murder), 506(2) (punishment for criminal intimidation), and 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), along with provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a 41-year-old man from Thane district lost his life allegedly following a quarrel in Kalyan area. The victim, who had expressed intentions to start a roadside food stall with friends, was attacked with sharp weapons behind a petrol pump in Adivali locality on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
The victim’s son received a call late at night, informing him that his father had been rushed to the hospital after an accident. Tragically, the man succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital. The son learned from the police that the incident was possibly linked to a quarrel involving his father.
The Manpada police have sent the body for post-mortem, and based on the son’s complaint, a case against unidentified persons has been registered under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. The police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
