A doctor and five migrant workers lost their lives in a terrorist attack at a construction site in Gagangir, located in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, according to official sources on Sunday. The death toll may rise, as many injured individuals—both local and non-local—are being treated at hospitals. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the assault on non-local laborers, labeling it a “dastardly and cowardly” act.

He noted that the casualty count from the Gagangir incident is not definitive due to the number of injured workers, with some being transferred to SKIMS in Srinagar for serious injuries. The attack occurred at a camp for laborers from a private company who were working on an under-construction tunnel in the Gund area. Police and army forces have cordoned off the site to pursue the attackers.

In a statement on X, the Jammu and Kashmir Police reported the incident and confirmed that security forces have surrounded the area. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also denounced the “horrific” attack, stating that the innocent laborers were contributing to a significant infrastructure project. He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery for the injured.
