Chinese technology giant Tencent Holdings announced on Monday that it will unveil its highly anticipated “Dungeon and Fighter” mobile game on May 21 following seven years of development.
Dubbed “Dungeon and Fighter: Origin,” this action game, created by Korean company Nexon, serves as a mobile adaptation of the immensely popular “Dungeon and Fighter” computer game, renowned as one of the world’s most lucrative computer games.
Tencent’s stock experienced a notable increase of approximately 4.5% on Monday morning.
Although the game saw a successful launch in South Korea in 2022, its release in China was postponed due to governmental crackdowns on the gaming industry between 2018 and 2022.
In a February report, investment bank Jefferies anticipated that the game would achieve a prominent position in revenue rankings in China, potentially yielding between $600 million to $1.1 billion in annualized revenues over time. However, the bank also predicted a cautious approach to engagement and monetization during its initial launch phase.
Last month, Tencent conducted a closed test involving 300,000 players, which yielded promising results. In a recent note, HSBC noted that testing for “DnFm” demonstrated strong performance across metrics such as daily active users, retention rate, and user spending propensity.
