A video from Kalluru village in Telangana’s Nirmal-Kuntala district has revealed the extreme risks locals face due to the collapse of a crucial bridge over the Sudda Vagu stream. The footage shows a man precariously crossing the stream by sliding along a narrow iron pipe, which serves as a makeshift bridge.
Without a proper bridge, villagers, including farmers, must rely on this hazardous method to travel between Kalluru and Pata Burugupalli. The situation has persisted since heavy rains caused the previous bridge to collapse, severely impacting daily life and agricultural activities in the region.
Residents have repeatedly urged authorities to rebuild the bridge, expressing fears for their safety. “We risk being swept away if we lose balance,” said a local villager. Despite changes in local governance, no action has been taken to restore this essential infrastructure.
The incident sheds light on the broader issue of inadequate infrastructure in rural Telangana. Many areas still lack basic facilities, forcing residents to adopt dangerous practices to meet their daily needs.
The plight of Kalluru villagers underscores the urgent need for infrastructural development in rural India. Until then, locals will continue risking their lives for a safe passage.
