Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday said Andhra Pradesh should emerge as a global hub for green energy, digital transformation and cybersecurity, as the state government unveiled an ambitious roadmap to strengthen power infrastructure and accelerate renewable energy generation.
Reviewing the power sector at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister directed officials to expedite the establishment of a Green Energy Corridor and expand the transmission network to meet the state’s future energy needs. Officials informed him that proposals worth nearly ₹22,000 crore have been prepared under Green Energy Corridor Phase-III to integrate 18 GW of green energy into the main power grid.
The proposed capacity includes 11 GW of solar power and nearly 7 GW from pumped storage projects. To support the initiative, the government plans to lay 2,261 km of transmission lines and establish five major pooling stations with a combined capacity of 9,500 MW at Mudigubba, Talupula, Ramayapatnam, Porumamilla and Koppaka.
Naidu said the state has set a target of generating 160 GW of green energy and stressed that infrastructure development should match future demand. He noted that the Green Energy Corridor would play a crucial role in supplying uninterrupted power to upcoming data centres and boosting investments across sectors.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the implementation of PM Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM schemes, along with the solarisation of government buildings. Officials said work had already begun to solarise government buildings with a capacity of 200 MW under the RESCO model through net metering systems.
As part of a pilot project, 78 Gurukul schools and hostels in Chittoor district have been selected, while 2,898 schools and hostels across the state have been identified for conversion into Net Zero campuses. Naidu directed officials to speed up the installation of solar panels on all government buildings, schools and hostels.
The Chief Minister also instructed officials to complete solar panel installations in all remaining SC and ST households by August-end. Under a BC subsidy scheme, the government aims to install rooftop solar systems in 10 lakh homes with financial support of ₹20,000 each.
Officials informed the meeting that Andhra Pradesh currently ranks fourth in PM Surya Ghar implementation, prompting the Chief Minister to urge departments to strive for the top position nationally.
The review further highlighted plans to establish 577 EV charging stations at 131 locations across the state. Officials also briefed the Chief Minister on the development of the country’s first Digital Twin Grid for power supply management and AI-driven initiatives to reduce technical losses in the APEPDCL region.
A delegation from the World Economic Forum also met the Chief Minister to discuss the implementation roadmap for the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) being established in Andhra Pradesh in partnership with AP Transco. The centre will focus on green energy, energy transition and cyber resilience.
Naidu directed officials to ensure that Andhra Pradesh’s progress becomes a model to be showcased at the next Davos summit.
