Jeep India has brought the Wrangler Willys ’41 limited edition back on popular demand at a premium of INR 2,00,000 over the top-end Rubicon model. Optional accessories, exclusive to this edition, would be available for an additional INR 3,60,000. I would tell you all about it but a quick history class is in order, which you won’t get in a press release.
The company “Jeep” as it is known today was originally known as Willys-Overland Motors back in the early 1900s. It’s most widely known as the maker of the World War 2 legend, the Willys MB jeep—one of the most vital tools responsible for the Allied forces’ victory as per General Dwight D. Eisenhower and General George C. Marshall. The Willys MB was produced between 1941 and 1945, hence the ’41 in the nomenclature of this special edition. Also, fittingly, just 41 of these would be available PAN India. Last year, 50 were introduced and Jeep claims that all were sold within just seven days.
WHAT IS THE WRANGLER WILLYS ’41 EDITION?
A tribute to the original Willys MB that started it all. That’s what the Jeep Wrangler Willys ’41 limited edition really is. Therefore, it gets an exclusive colour inspired by the Willys MB, and though the website shows other regular colours as well, I don’t think anyone in their right mind would choose this special edition in anything but this exclusive shade of green.
You obviously also get exclusive heritage cues such as WWII-themed Willys graphics and “one of 41” badging. The usable enhancements include motorized side steps, integrated dash cam, and reinforced adventure-grade grab handles.
The optional secondary kit comprises a roof carrier with side-mounted ladder, and sunrider roof top. I contacted Jeep India to know how the latter different to the regular two-piece quick-release front top on the other Wranglers, and I was informed that the sunrider is a one-piece unit.
Also, like I mentioned earlier, this special edition Wrangler is based on the Rubicon, which means you still get the absolute best factory off-road vehicle in the world.
