Maruti Suzuki is bringing festive cheer to car buyers. The country’s largest automaker announced on Thursday that it will pass the full benefit of the new GST reduction to customers. Prices across its lineup have dropped, giving buyers significant savings.
Entry-level models see the biggest cuts. The S-Presso is now up to ₹1.29 lakh cheaper, while the Alto K10 drops by over ₹1.07 lakh. Popular SUVs like the Fronx and Brezza also get reductions of over ₹1.12 lakh, making them more attractive for buyers.
How GST Reduce the Ex-Showroom Price?
India’s car tax system has been reshaped:
Compact cars: Petrol, LPG, or CNG vehicles with engines up to 1,200cc (diesel up to 1,500cc) and length under 4,000 mm now attract 18% GST, down from 28%.
Bigger cars and SUVs: Petrol or hybrid cars above 1,200cc, diesel or hybrid above 1,500cc, or longer than 4,000 mm face 40% GST.
This narrows the gap between two-wheelers and cars, encouraging more budget-conscious buyers to upgrade.

Best Timing For Price Reduction
The move comes at a crucial time for India’s auto sector. Vehicle dispatches fell in the past four months as manufacturers awaited clarity on GST. In August, only 321,840 passenger vehicles reached dealerships, down 8.8% from last year.
By cutting prices, Maruti aims to boost demand among first-time buyers, fleet operators, and dealers. The festive season could see renewed sales momentum.
Maruti’s Message to Buyers
Speaking at a virtual press meet, Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer (Marketing & Sales), said:
“We’ve gone beyond simply passing on GST cuts — on small cars, we’ve added an extra reduction of 8.5%. This is designed to make the upgrade from two-wheelers to cars much easier.”

He highlighted India’s low car ownership of 34 vehicles per 1,000 people and called the timing ideal for putting more people on wheels. Banerjee expects the industry to return to its earlier 6–7% CAGR growth next year.

- Hatchback shoppers: S-Presso, Alto K10, and Celerio see cuts up to ₹1.29 lakh — perfect for budget buyers.
- SUV buyers: In India’s best-selling market, the Brezza and Fronx, both have become over ₹1 lakh cheaper, providing greater value.
- Families and fleets: Dzire, Ertiga, and XL6 are now more reasonably priced for both residential and business use.
Maruti also announced cheaper spare parts and servicing, which will reduce long-term expenses. Support will be provided to dealers to guarantee a seamless deployment.
