In a breakthrough announcement, OpenAI Inc. has revealed that users in India will get one year of free access to its advanced chatbot service, ChatGPT Go, starting November 4, 2025. The move comes as part of the company’s plan to engage one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing AI user bases. The launch will also coincide with OpenAI’s first-ever DevDay Exchange event in India, set to take place in Bengaluru.
ChatGPT Go is OpenAI’s premium version of its popular chatbot, offering users a faster, smarter, and more flexible experience. It runs on the company’s latest GPT-5 model, delivering enhanced features such as higher message limits, faster replies, long-term memory, and advanced data handling.
With ChatGPT Go, people can upload PDFs, images, and other documents for immediate analysis, make graphics, and crack advanced tasks more quickly. In essence, it offers the complete capability of ChatGPT without the restrictions of the regular free version.
OpenAI said that this move is an act of gratitude towards India's increasing and active AI community. The nation has become ChatGPT's second-largest user base in a short span, with paid members doubling a month after the service was introduced in August.
The Vice President and Head of ChatGPT at OpenAI, Nick Turley, said, “Ahead of our first DevDay Exchange event in India, we’re making ChatGPT Go freely available for a year to help more people across India easily access and benefit from advanced AI.”
All Indian users who register during the promotion will receive one year of free access, including existing ChatGPT Go subscribers. OpenAI is expected to release details soon on how users can claim the offer.
This initiative is part of OpenAI’s India-focused expansion plan, which aligns with the government’s IndiaAI Mission a national effort to boost artificial intelligence across industries, research, and education. The company also plans to open new offices in New Delhi and Bengaluru to strengthen its local presence. OpenAI’s move mirrors similar efforts by competitors like Anthropic, whose CEO recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to explore AI collaboration opportunities.
OpenAI’s free one-year offer highlights India’s increasing importance in the global AI ecosystem. With a population of over 1.4 billion, the country represents one of the most dynamic technology markets in the world.
By bringing ChatGPT Go to millions of Indians, OpenAI hopes to democratize powerful AI capabilities and equip users — students and developers, businesses and more — to realize new potential in innovation and creativity.
