In Chandigarh, a diesel-laden tanker overturned late at night, causing a commotion at the Sector 20-21 junction. The incident saw people hurriedly collecting spilled diesel in containers, bottles, and plastic drums. Even with the arrival of the police’s PCR team, onlookers continued their activities. However, the police had closed the road to incoming traffic. The police responded to the scene, but the disaster management team did not arrive during the night. The event transpired at approximately 10:30 p.m. After receiving the alert, the police’s PCR team arrived on-site. They had called the disaster management team to assist in righting the overturned tanker. Nevertheless, the disaster management team arrived nearly two hours later, around 12:30 AM. Following their arrival, the tanker was successfully up righted, and the road was reopened for traffic. Surprisingly, despite the diesel spill on the road, the disaster management team did not arrive at the scene during the night. The tanker’s overturning resulted in diesel spreading across the road. Observing this, individuals in the vicinity began hastily filling containers, bottles, and plastic drums with the spilled diesel. The PCR team from the police was present at the scene, though they could do little but watch the spectacle unfold. Witnesses at the scene recounted that as the tanker approached the Sector 20-21 intersection, a car suddenly appeared in its path. In an attempt to avert a collision with the car, the tanker’s driver applied the brakes. Consequently, the tanker lost control and overturned. The driver of the car was reported to be a woman, while the tanker driver fled the scene. Approximately a month ago in Chandigarh another incident occurred when a truck carrying fiberglass overturned at the Sector 31-32 junction in the morning. With the assistance of a hydraulic machine, the truck was eventually righted, and the road was cleared. This incident also stemmed from a car suddenly applying the brakes in front of the truck, leading to its overturn. Another car had preceded the truck in a similar manner.
