In Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi district, 38 people have died after drinking ‘methanol mixed arrack,’ according to Chief Minister M K Stalin. He promised strong action against officials responsible for not preventing this Hooch tragedy.

In a X (Twitter) he recently posted “I was shocked and saddened to hear the news of the deaths of people who had consumed adulterated liquor in Kallakurichi. Those involved in the crime have been arrested in this matter. Action has also been taken against the officials who failed to prevent it. Immediate action will be taken if the public informs about those involved in such crimes. Such crimes that ruin the society will be suppressed with an iron fist.”

Four people have been arrested in connection with the Kallakurichi incident. Stalin has appointed retired Judge B Gokuldas to lead a commission to find out why this happened and suggest ways to stop it from happening again.

Stalin said the families of 34 victims will get Rs 10 lakh each, and those in the hospital will get Rs 50,000 each. The Home Secretary and the Police Chief will report on the hooch tragedy.

Today, the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly paid respects to the Kallakurichi victims, as well as those who died in a Kuwait fire and former legislators. They began with a tribute from Speaker M Appavu and a minute of silence. Speaker Appavu said the government is working hard to stop fake alcohol sales. He mentioned Chief Minister Stalin’s efforts to help the victims and expressed sorrow over the Kuwait fire deaths. The assembly expressed deep condolences to the affected families.
