Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto admitted to poor decision-making during their Super Eights match against Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024, leading to an eight-run defeat. Shanto acknowledged the failure of the middle-order batsmen to execute their plan effectively.

“Our plan was to attack in the first six overs, but we made poor decisions, especially in the middle overs, which cost us the game,” Shanto stated after the match. He praised Bangladesh’s bowling performance throughout the tournament but highlighted the batting unit’s shortcomings.

Reflecting on the game, Afghanistan chose to bat after winning the toss, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz contributing significantly with 43 runs. Bangladesh’s Rishad Hossain stood out with three wickets in the bowling department.

In the chase, Litton Das was the lone standout performer for Bangladesh, scoring an unbeaten 54 runs. However, Naveen-ul-Haq and Rashid Khan’s four-wicket hauls led Afghanistan to victory.
