Randeep Hooda’s ‘Swatantra Veer Savarkar’ hit the screens on Friday, March 22, much to the delight of his fans. The biographical drama is likely to open to a decent response at the domestic box office. According to exhibitor Akshaye Rathi the day 1 collection is expected to be between Rs 1.5 crore and Rs 2 crore.

“The film may garner good expectedly on the first day of release as it has historical and political background and relates us with nationalism. We can expect it to do between Rs 1.5 crore and Rs 2 crore today and then grow if the content is good” he told The Daily Guardian.

Rathi further said the fact that the film is releasing in Marathi and Hindi may work in its favour

“Veer Savarkar was a popular figure in Maharashtra, which may limit the film’s box office collection. However, its release in both Marathi and Hindi languages could provide an additional boost to revenue collection.” he said

Rathi further added that although the buzz around the film is ‘moderate’, the biopic will appeal to all groups as there is an interest in learning about historical events.

“The audience buzz for this movie is moderate. The individuals of all age groups who are driven by the perpetual interest of learning about historical events, would go to watch this film. Moreover, with the ongoing election season, there is a possibility that viewers may approach the film with a political perspective,” said Rathi.

‘Swatantra Veer Savarkar’ hits screens alongside ‘Madgaon Express’. Rathi, however, feels the films will not affect each other’s business.

“The release of ‘Madgaon express’ would not impact its collection as both movies have different themes and audience, so there is little chance of clash.”said Rathi.

Directed by Randeep Hooda, the film features him in the role of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar alongside Ankita Lokhande, Amit Sial and R Bhakti.

The movie depicts the life journey of Indian freedom fighter and reformer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, commonly known as Veer Savarkar. It explores India’s freedom struggle through the lens of Savarkar’s character and his contributions.
