Supreme Court Collegium Recommended The Appointment Of Advocate Pranav Shailesh Trivedi As Judge Gujarat High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment of Advocate Pranav Shailesh Trivedi as the Judge of Gujarat High Court.

It has been tweeted by the Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal that in exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, the President of India, after consultation with Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint Advocate, Shri Pranav Shailesh Trivedi as a Judge ofthe Gujarat High Court. The President of India has approved the appointment of Advocate Pranav Shailesh Trivedi as the Judge of the Gujarat High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment on January 09, 2024.

The Supreme Court Collegium had initially decided to return the proposal regarding Trivedi to the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court for being considered at the appropriate stage, thus, the Centre referred the file back to the collegium wherein it requested for positive consideration. The Supreme Court Collegium recommended that the proposal for the elevation of Shri Pranav Shailesh Trivedi be returned to the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court for being considered at the appropriate stage on March 02, 2023.

Further, the Department of Justice has referred back the file for positive consideration
of the above proposal. The Supreme Court Collegium have reconsidered the recommendation dated March 02, 2023 in light of the reasons recorded by the Department of Justice in the file. The Supreme Court Collegium stated that it was endorsing the observations made in the file by the Department of Justice while referring back
the above proposal for the positive consideration.

The Supreme Court Collegium expressed the considered view that Pranav Shailesh Trivedi is ‘fit and suitable for being elevated as a Judge of the Gujarat High Court.’ At Present, the working strength of the Gujarat High Court rises to 30 judges, out of the sanctioned strength of 52.
