The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the names of five Additional Judges of Madras High Court which are to be made permanent judges. The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the names in its meeting held on Wednesday.
The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the name of five Additional Judges of Madras High Court:
- Justice S Srimathy
- Justice Bharatha Chakravarthy
- Justice R Vijayakumar
- Justice Mohammed Shaffiq
- Justice Sathya Narayana Prasad
Therefore, On November 21, 2022, the High Court Collegium had recommended the permanent appointment of judges. Thus, the Governor and the Chief Minister concurred with the recommendation of Judges.
The court also held the consultation in order to ascertain the suitability and fitness of the Additional Judges with regards of the Memorandum of Procedure with the Judges of the Supreme Court in conversant with the affairs of the Madras High Court.
The court also set up a Judgment Evaluation Committee for assessing the judgments of the Additional judges and its report was to be submitted.
Accordingly, the said statements reads that the court with view to assess the merit and suitability of the above-named Additional Judges for their appointment as Permanent Judges, the Supreme Court Collegium has scrutinized and has evaluated the material which is placed on record which includes the observations made by the Department of Justice in the file. The Supreme Court Collegium being of the view that with regards to all the relevant factors, (1) Mrs. Justice Sundaram Srimathy (2) Justice D. Bharatha Chakravarthy (3) Justice R. Vijayakumar (4) Justice Mohammed Shaffiq and (5) Justice J. Sathya Narayana Prasad, Additional Judges are suitable for being appointed as the permanent judges of Madras High Court.
