Punjab’s Cabinet Minister Aman Arora finds himself entangled in legal issues. The Sunam Court has handed a two-year sentence to Arora under sections 452 and 323, stemming from a case dating back to 2008. Alongside Arora, eight others have also received a two-year sentence in the matter. Reports indicate that all nine individuals have been fined in addition to their imprisonment. This legal development has sparked political turmoil in Punjab following Aman Arora’s conviction.
The case revolves around a family dispute, with allegations pointing towards Arora for alleged assault. Details suggest that the accusations against Aman Arora stem from a familial conflict where he was accused of forcefully entering a residence and committing acts of assault. Back in 2008, Aman Arora’s Brother-in-law, Rajinder Deepa, lodged a complaint stating that Aman Arora, along with his associates, had intruded into his home and carried out the alleged assault.Aman Arora serves as a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Sunam in Sangrur. During the 2022 elections, Arora secured victory over his closest rival, Congress’s Jaswinder Singh Dhiman, with a notable margin of 75,277 votes. Upon assuming office as an MLA, Arora joined the Punjab cabinet and was entrusted with the responsibilities of overseeing significant departments such as Housing and Urban Development, and Public Grievances and Outreach. However, a few months later, in March, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann reshuffled the cabinet, reducing Arora’s role. He was divested of both major departments and was assigned portfolios including New Energy Resources, Printing and Stationery, Governance Reforms, and Employment Generation in the reshuffle.
