In a strategic move aimed at bolstering party presence in the Maur Assembly segment, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Badal convened a crucial meeting on Friday with party workers from Rampura and Maur in Bathinda district.

During the meeting, Badal announced the appointment of senior party leader and former minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon as the new in-charge of the Maur Assembly segment. This decision marks a significant shift from the previous leadership, as Sikander Singh Maluka, who held the position, has been replaced.

Maluka’s recent association with Harsimrat Badal’s campaign in Maur raised eyebrows, especially in light of his son Gurpreet Maluka and daughter-in-law Parampal Kaur Sidhu’s defection to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday. Speculations are rife that Parampal Sidhu is being considered as the BJP candidate for the Bathinda Lok Sabha seat.

The appointment of Sekhon comes at a crucial juncture, particularly as the Maur Assembly segment witnesses political realignments and prepares for upcoming electoral battles.

Notably, Sikander Singh Maluka had been entrusted with the responsibility of this constituency in June last year, and the party had fielded Jagmeet Singh Brar in the 2022 state elections.

As political dynamics continue to evolve, Sukhbir Badal’s decision to appoint Janmeja Singh Sekhon underscores the party’s efforts to consolidate its position and navigate through changing alliances ahead of future electoral contests.
