Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty recently visited Raghavendra Swamy Mutt in Bengaluru with her parents, Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy and author-philanthropist Sudha Murty. During the visit, Sudha Murty had an endearing “peak Indian mom” moment when she handed cash to Sunak and Akshata for offerings at the temple.

The Viral Gesture That Won Hearts

The heartwarming moment, reminiscent of Indian mothers ensuring proper rituals, quickly went viral. Social media was abuzz with reactions, praising Murty for keeping traditional values alive.

One X user, @srkprashanth, commented, “It’s cute to see mom giving money to the daughter for the aarthi. Mom’s are mom how rich u can be. Rishi’s expression was adorable when she gave money.”
Another user, @ttvkrishna, added, “Happy family prays together, this is true Hindu culture.”

A Testament to Indian Traditions

This isn’t the first time Sunak has embraced his Indian roots. A devout Hindu, Sunak has often spoken about his faith and respect for Indian customs. Earlier this year, during a visit to London’s Neasden Temple, he shared, “I am Hindu, and like all of you, I draw inspiration and comfort from my faith.” Sunak also emphasized his commitment to passing these traditions to his daughters.

A Family Embodying Cultural Values

The Murty-Sunak family’s temple visit and Sudha Murty’s thoughtful gesture symbolize the enduring essence of Indian familial and cultural values, resonating with millions across the globe.
