‘Stree 2’, which hit screens on August 15, has opened to a sensational response at the domestic box office and received rave reviews from fans. The horror-comedy collected Rs 55.4 crore on the first day to emerge as the best opener of 2024. Additionally, it collected nearly 9 crore through paid previews on Wednesday (August 14). Its total collection stands at 64 crore. This, however, is not the only to film to collect more than Rs 50 crore in Hindi on the first day. Here is a look at some films that achieved this feat.

Sandeep Vanga Reddy’s polarising action drama, ‘Animal’ collected a sensational Rs 54.75 crore on the first day even though it was meant for “adults only”. The film went on to become a game-changer for Ranbir Kapoor despite mixed reviews. This was Sandeep’s second Hindi film after the equally controversial ‘Kabir Singh’.
The Shah Rukh Khan-led actioner collected Rs 65 crore on its opening day and went on to emerge as a runaway hit at the box office, The film was directed by Atlee and marked his Bollywood debut. The flick featured SRK in the lead role and catered to a mass audience. The cast included Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, and Priyamani.
Shah Rukh Khan, who suffered a setback when ‘Zero’ bombed at the box office, bounced back with the 2023 blockbuster ‘Pathaan’. The spy-thriller, which was a part of Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe, earned Rs 55 crore on its first day and went on to become a blockbuster. It featured a star-studded cast headlined by Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, and Salman Khan.
The Hindi-dubbed version of this action-packed Kannada film raked Rs 53.95 crore on the first day and helped Sandalwood break the language barrier. Directed by Prashanth Neel, the biggie featured Yash and Sanjay Dutt in the lead.
The Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff-led spy flick earned a sensational Rs 51 crore at the box office when it hit screens on Gandhi Jayanti in 2019. It subsequently went on to have a terrific first weekend. The film was directed by Siddharth Anand. Its sequel, starring ‘Duggu’ and Jr NTR, is currently being shot.
The Amitabh Bachchan-starrer collected Rs 50.8 crore on thre first day despite receiving negative reviews. It, unfortunately, failed to keep the momentum going and ended up being a flop.
