Crime against women increased by 15.3% in 2021 from previous year

According to NCRB statistics

Crime against women in 2021 increased by 15.3% from the previous year. The number grew from 56.5% in 2020 to 64.5% in 2021, (incidents per 1 lakh population).


Rajasthan stood second in crimes against women in 2021. For the third consecutive year, the state had reported maximum rape cases last year as revealed by data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). With 16.4%, Rajasthan had the highest rate of rape in 2021.


In 2021, West Bengal was also among the top five states in crimes against women. The state reported 35,884 cases, slightly lower than the previous year’s 36,439 but higher than 2019’s 29,859 cases.
According to the NCRB, West Bengal placed fourth with regard to overall crimes against women (35,884), after Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra in 2021.
