Badaun, often hailed as the cradle of Sufi saints and esteemed personalities, holds a globally renowned status owing to its distinctive cultural identity. Formerly recognized as the heart of Rohilkhand, this city in Western Uttar Pradesh boasts a rich historical legacy that extends through various eras. Notably, during the rule of Iltutmish from 1210 AD to 1214 AD, Badaun proudly served as the capital of the Delhi Sultanate for a significant four-year period.

Sanghamitra Maurya, the daughter of Samajwadi Party figure Swami Prasad Maurya, has been actively involved in the political realm. Her initial foray into electoral contests saw her challenging Mulayam Singh Yadav in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, representing the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) while her father was affiliated with the same party. Sanghamitra Maurya maintains an impressive attendance record with a presence of 98% in parliamentary sessions. However, her engagement in raising questions in the House stands at 35%, indicating a moderate involvement in this crucial aspect. The utilization of MP’s funds reflects a commendable 73%, showcasing a significant allocation towards developmental initiatives. Regarding special contributions, she demonstrates a moderate engagement at 52%. Collectively, these metrics culminate in a points tally of 64%, reflecting an overall parliamentary rating of 0.64 out of 1.
The survey results depict a diverse sentiment among constituents regarding their Member of Parliament’s (MP) performance and preferences for the upcoming elections. Nearly half of the respondents, at 48.84%, express satisfaction with their MP’s work, while a slightly lower percentage, 48.01%, wouldn’t vote for them again. Meanwhile, a significant majority, 90.53%, believe their MP should exhibit greater involvement in the region’s development, signaling a widespread expectation for increased activity. Looking towards the 2024 general elections, the majority, 61.11%, lean towards supporting the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), while a noteworthy portion, 19.97%, remains undecided. Factors influencing voting decisions vary, with a substantial 57.49% citing the performance of the Modi government as their primary consideration, followed by concerns over unemployment and inflation at 25.58%. Regarding the Central Government’s schemes, around half, 47.68%, claim to have benefited, with free ration being the most cited at 23.75%, while a significant 51.05% indicate no benefit from any specific scheme. These insights reflect a diverse range of opinions and considerations among constituents, emphasizing the varied factors shaping their political preferences and expectations from their representatives.
