With the aim of providing uninterrupted regular electricity to the people of the state, the Haryana Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahanadi Basin Power Limited (MBPL) to purchase 800 megawatts of electricity. In the presence of Chief Minister Sh. Manohar Lal, Managing Director of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, Dr. Saket Kumar, and Debasish Nanda from Coal India Limited, the MoU was signed. Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal, shared this information while addressing a press conference on Thursday. School Education Minister Kanwar Pal was also present on this occasion.
The Chief Minister stated that a super-critical thermal power plant of 1600 megawatts (2×800 megawatts) is being set up in Odisha by a subsidiary company of Coal India Limited, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL). He further shared that Mahanadi Basin Power Limited (MBPL) has proposed to supply 800 megawatts of electricity from its proposed plant in Odisha to Haryana. Today, an MOU has been signed for the purchase of 800 megawatts of electricity in this regard. He informed that a single tariff (levelized tariff) of Rs. 4.46 per unit has been fixed for the proposed power purchase.
He further informed that significant work has been done in the electricity sector over the past nine and a half years. In 2014, the demand for electricity in the state was 9,000 megawatts, which has now increased to 14,000 megawatts. Electricity is being supplied continuously by power corporations. Power is also purchased from hydro and solar power sources, and Haryana is self-reliant in terms of electricity. He said that Haryana has achieved significant success in domestic electricity supply, and today, electricity is being supplied 24 hours a day in nearly 5,800 villages.
