On the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, a stampede broke out at the Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan on Friday. During this two people died and many others were injured. According to official information, about half a dozen people have been injured.
Meanwhile, Mangala Aarti is held once a year at Thakur Banke Bihari Temple. The number of devotees in the temple was more than the capacity. Due to this suffocation, two devotees died.
The dead people have been identified as Nirmala Devi, a woman resident of Noida Sector-99, and Ram Prasad Vishwakarma of Rukmini Vihar Colony, Vrindavan. He was originally from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh.
Moreover, when the incident took place there was a heavy police force with senior officials including SSP, DS, and Municipal Commissioner. As soon as the incident happened, police and private security personnel started evacuating devotees from the temple. The injured were sent to Braj Health Care, Sau Shaiya, and Ram Krishna Mission Hospital in Vrindavan.
However, the SSP said that the incident took place at around 2 PM due to overcrowding. The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the relatives. SSP said that the situation is under control at present and the injured are admitted to the hospital.
