‘Would love to’: Rohit Sharma on Playing Bilateral Series Against Arch-Rivals Pakistan

India’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma expressed his willingness to engage in a bilateral Test series against longstanding rivals Pakistan, emphasizing the potential for a closely contested match. Speaking on the “Club Prairie Fire” podcast with former England captain Michael Vaughan, Sharma highlighted the significance of focusing solely on cricket, disregarding other issues.

When asked by Vaughan about the prospect of regular matches between India and Pakistan benefiting Test cricket, Sharma agreed, citing the competitive nature of both teams. He reminisced about the last Test match between the two nations in 2006 or 2008, underlining his enthusiasm for engaging in such contests.

Despite the political tensions that have led to a cessation of cricketing ties between India and Pakistan, Sharma emphasized the pure sporting aspect and expressed openness to the idea of playing bilateral series.

Cricket Australia has also expressed interest in hosting such a series, recalling the memorable India-Pakistan encounter at the MCG during the 2022 T20 World Cup.

The upcoming World Cup match between India and Pakistan in June promises to reignite their historic rivalry, with both teams aiming for victory.
