World No. 1 Scheffler Leads By Four At Memorial, Theegala In 7th Place

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler continued his dominant run on the PGA Tour, extending his lead to four shots at the Memorial Tournament with one round remaining. Scheffler carded a 1-under 71, bringing his total to 10-under 206. He leads by four strokes over Collin Morikawa (68), Adam Hadwin (72), and Sepp Straka (68).

Indian-American Sahith Theegala climbed the leaderboard with a 3-under 69 on the challenging Muirfield Village course, moving to a tie for 7th place after being tied for 20th at the end of the second round. His earlier rounds were 73 and 71. Fellow Indian-American Akshay Bhatia (75) slipped from a tie for 7th to a tie for 18th.

Scheffler’s third round was eventful, including a triple bogey after going out of bounds. However, he recovered well with six birdies. He is now positioned for his fifth title of the season, which already includes wins at the 2023 Masters and the PLAYERS Championship.

Rory McIlroy (73) is tied for 11th, eight shots behind Scheffler, while Xander Schauffele (71) is among the group tied for fifth place. Morikawa will join Scheffler in the final group, reprising their pairing from the Masters. Morikawa is a past champion at Muirfield Village, having won the 2020 Workday Charity Open.

Defending champion Viktor Hovland struggled on the back nine, starting with a bogey on the par-5 11th after hitting into the water. He then bogeyed the 12th, 13th, and 14th holes. Despite a birdie on the 15th, he hit the water again on the par-3 16th, resulting in a triple bogey. His back nine score of 42 led to a round of 77, dropping him to a tie for 14th, nine shots behind the leader, Scheffler
