WITH 2 NEW SIDES, IPL 2022 WILL BE 10-TEAM TOURNAMENT

AHMEDABAD: The 89th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was held at Ahmedabad. The board has announced that from 2022, 10 teams will participate in the IPL instead of 8. One of the 2 new teams will be from Gujarat. The Gujarat team will make the newly constructed Motera Stadium their home ground. Like last season of IPL, only 8 teams will participate in 2021.

Moreover, instead of mega-auction, this time there will be a mini-auction as well. Talks are underway for the Ahmedabad franchise in the new teams. Both Adani Group and Goenka Group have expressed their interest in buying the franchise.

Gautam Adani, the owner of the Adani Group, one of the richest people in the country, has previously expressed interest in buying an IPL franchise. Now that the Ahmedabad franchise is at the forefront, this Gujarati businessman has a good chance to join the league. Adani could get a bump from RPG group’s Sanjeev Goenka group. Goenka has previously owned the Pune Supergiants. Southern superstar Mohanlal is also keen to buy the team. Mohanlal was also seen in Dubai in the recently concluded IPL. This kind of speculation has been going on ever since.

. Increasing the number of teams will also increase the number of matches. With this, BCCI expects a significant increase in revenue. The broadcasting of this league could add to the troubles of partner India. The star is already under a lot of pressure due to the high IPL license fees. Now the number of matches with 10 teams will increase to 94. With the addition of 34 additional matches, Star India will have to pay more than Rs 1,700 crore in license fees.
