Wimbledon 2023: Alcaraz calls his semi-final opponent Medvedev an octopus, a complete player

Young Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz moved into the last four at Wimbledon 2023, defeating Holger Rune in the quarterfinals.

His next opponent in the semis will be Daniil Medvedev, whom he respected a lot and called a “complete player” and an “octopus”.

The battle between Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune on Wednesday was the first Wimbledon quarterfinal clash in the Open Era (since 1968) to be contested between players under 21 years old. Both the youngsters played with enthusiasm and entertained the packed Centre Court crowd. Alcaraz defeated his opponent 7-6(3), 6-4, 6-4 to play his maiden semi-final at Wimbledon.

It would be Alcaraz’s first semi-final berth on the grass court. He lifted his first Grand Slam title, the US Open, last year, and now he is looking forward to lifting his second major title.

This 20-year-old Spaniard has moved to the semifinals for the third time in a Grand Slam event and has a maiden semifinal spot in London. He must be aiming to surpass Medvedev and inch closer to winning the second big title of his career.

Alcaraz has been elated after winning the quarter final match. The youngster also said that it was a dream come true to play in a semifinal in London.

He went on to say that “I remember the first time that I came here, it was an unbelievable feeling to be able to play here. Right now, it is totally different for me. I cannot believe that I am in this position right now after such a short period of time. It is something crazy for me,” he continued.
