Virat Kohli recently expressed his admiration for basketball legend Michael Jordan in a fanboy moment, recalling how Jordan’s on-court intensity and determination inspired him. Currently competing in the ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA, Kohli shared his memories in a video posted by the US Consulate General in Mumbai on Instagram. He talked about waking up early to watch NBA games before cricket practice, particularly following Jordan’s matches and being captivated by his style and personality. Kohli also mentioned his admiration for the late Kobe Bryant.
Kohli reminisced, “I remember watching early morning basketball games on ESPN in India. I was drawn to Michael Jordan’s body language, his movements, and his intense will to win. I would mark Chicago Bulls games in the newspaper to ensure I never missed a chance to watch him play. There was always magic in his games.”
Kohli added that if he ever met Jordan, he would “go crazy” and behave like a fanboy, eager for an autograph. He emphasized his deep respect for Jordan’s legacy and his desire to meet the basketball icon someday.
Michael Jordan, who played from 1984-2003, is regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He secured six NBA Championships with the Chicago Bulls and received numerous MVP awards throughout his career.
Meanwhile, Kohli’s performance in the T20 World Cup has been below expectations, with only 66 runs in six innings. As India prepares for their semifinal clash against England in Guyana, both Kohli and his fans hope to see him regain his form and deliver a standout performance.
