Delhi Capitals (DC) dominated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) with a commanding nine-wicket victory in the TATA Women’s Premier League 2025 in Bengaluru on Saturday. Shafali Verma and Jess Jonassen starred with the bat, while Shikha Pandey and Marizanne Kapp delivered with the ball. As a result, DC secured their place in the playoffs.
Meanwhile, RCB ended their home campaign without a single win, losing all four matches. Consequently, their playoff hopes now hang by a thread. On the other hand, DC leads the points table with 10 points from seven matches, winning five games so far.
RCB Struggles Despite Perry’s Resilient Knock
From the start, RCB faced challenges as they lost captain Smriti Mandhana early for just eight runs. However, Danni Wyatt-Hodge (21 off 18 balls) and Ellyse Perry (60* off 47 balls) steadied the innings with a 44-run partnership. Later, Perry combined with Raghvi Bist (33 off 32 balls) to add another 66 runs. Despite these efforts, RCB could only post 147/5 in 20 overs.
Meanwhile, DC’s bowlers maintained tight control. Marizanne Kapp gave away just 18 runs in four overs and claimed one wicket. Additionally, Shikha Pandey picked up two wickets for 24 runs, while Shree Charani also took two wickets for 28 runs.
Shafali and Jonassen Destroy RCB’s Bowling Attack
Although DC lost Meg Lanning early for just two runs to Renuka Singh, Shafali Verma and Jess Jonassen quickly turned the game around.
Shafali smashed an unbeaten 80 off 43 balls, hitting six fours and four sixes. Similarly, Jonassen remained unbeaten on 61 off 38 balls, striking nine fours and a six. Their aggressive 146-run partnership dismantled RCB’s bowling attack. As a result, DC chased down the target in just 15.3 overs, winning with 27 balls to spare.
RCB’s Playoff Hopes Hang in the Balance
With this loss, RCB’s chances of making the playoffs have become extremely slim. However, they still have two matches left to fight for survival. They will face UP Warriorz on March 8, followed by Mumbai Indians on March 10 in Lucknow. Therefore, winning both matches is crucial if they want to stay in contention.
