Amanjot Kaur kept her cool and led Mumbai Indians (MI) to a thrilling win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the TATA Women’s Premier League 2025 on Friday.
Once again, winning the toss and choosing to bowl first proved effective in this WPL season. Consequently, MI followed the strategy against RCB and succeeded.
MI’s Chase Begins with Early Setback
While chasing 168, MI lost Yastika Bhatia early for eight runs. However, Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt launched a counterattack against RCB’s bowlers.
Meanwhile, Sciver-Brunt played aggressively, while Matthews anchored the innings. As a result, MI scored 66 runs in the powerplay but lost Matthews for 15 off 10 balls.
Harmanpreet and Amanjot Steady the Innings
Soon after, Captain Harmanpreet Kaur stepped in to maintain momentum. Sciver-Brunt smashed 42 off 21 balls before falling. Unfortunately, Amelia Kerr departed soon after for just 2 runs.
Subsequently, Harmanpreet built a crucial 62-run partnership with Amanjot Kaur to keep MI on track. In the 16th over, Harmanpreet hit MI’s first six. She reached her 43rd T20 fifty, but MI still needed 24 runs from the last three overs.
RCB Strikes Back
Nevertheless, RCB fought back. Georgia Wareham dismissed Harmanpreet and then Sajeevan Sajana for a golden duck, giving RCB hope.
At this point, MI needed 22 runs in the last two overs. Fortunately, Amanjot Kaur (34*) turned the game by hitting a six off Kanika Ahuja’s first ball. Then, she ended the over with another boundary, leaving MI one hit away from victory.
MI Seals the Win
Finally, G Kamalini (11*) and Amanjot rotated the strike smartly. Kamalini sealed MI’s four-wicket win by smashing a boundary.
RCB’s Strong Start
Earlier, RCB captain Smriti Mandhana gave her team a strong start with multiple boundaries. She looked set for a big score but eventually fell for 26 to Shabnim Ismail.
Perry’s Heroics Lift RCB
Sensing an opportunity, MI capitalized by quickly removing Danielle Wyatt-Hodge (9), Raghvi Bist (1), and Kanika Ahuja (3). Meanwhile, Ellyse Perry steadied RCB with a 50-run stand alongside Richa Ghosh.
As the innings progressed, Perry reached her half-century and accelerated in the death overs. She hammered 81 off 43 balls, lifting RCB to 167/7.
Despite Perry’s heroics, MI held firm. Ultimately, Amanjot Kaur finished the chase and secured a hard-fought win.
