Spain’s Euro 2024 Victory Caps Perfect Campaign, Celebrated as a Triumph for Football

Spain’s Euro 2024 victory, marked by a perfect campaign, has been widely celebrated as a deserved triumph. La Roja won all seven matches without needing penalties, culminating in a 2-1 victory over England in the final. This historic win in Berlin secured Spain’s fourth European Championship, a record achievement.

Spain’s journey was arduous, defeating every European team that has ever won a World Cup, including Italy, Germany, France, and England, as well as 2018 finalists Croatia. Rodri, the tournament’s best player, and teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal, who was named the young player of the tournament, were standout performers. Dani Olmo shared the Golden Boot, while Yamal led in assists.

Despite not being pre-tournament favorites, with England and France tipped for success, Spain’s cohesive team effort shone through. England’s manager, Gareth Southgate, conceded, “Congratulations to Spain. They deserved a win not only tonight but across the whole tournament.”

This Spanish team, unlike the tiki-taka maestros of the past, relied heavily on wingers. Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal scored crucial goals in the final, with Yamal providing an assist. Notably, Yamal, at 17, became the youngest player to score, assist, and win a European Championship.

Chris Sutton remarked, “It is a good thing for football that Spain won the tournament with the brand they have played.” Meanwhile, former Spain midfielder Juan Mata praised the blend of young and experienced players, “It is not only a team for the present but also a team for the future.”

Luis de la Fuente, Spain’s manager since 2022, played a pivotal role in this success. Having previously managed many of the current squad at youth levels, his familiarity and tactical acumen have taken Spain to new heights. Balague noted, “Spain have beaten everyone put in front of them – that is not easy to do.
