Shubman Gill, who has struggled in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, came back strongly to form with a crucial century for Punjab against Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy. The 25-year-old had faced severe doubts over his red-ball credentials following a torrid run in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, Gill silenced his critics with a solid performance on Day 3 of the Ranji Trophy match, leading Punjab’s fightback.

It was after Punjab’s embarrassing first innings collapse for just 55 that they once more faced the pressure of Karnataka’s bowlers. However, Gill held one end up while carrying the innings forward. He completed his century off 159 balls that consisted of 14 fours and three sixes.

In this match, Shubman batted at the opening position for Punjab, a spot he had relinquished during the West Indies tour for Yashasvi Jaiswal. Though he had a tough time getting accustomed to the number three slot for India, Gill came back with a hard-fought innings, putting up a crucial 63-run partnership with tailender Mayank Markande.

In a game where most of the seniors failed, be it Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, or even Rohit Sharma, Shubman stood tall and was one of the stars of Round 6 of the Ranji Trophy. Ravindra Jadeja took 12 wickets for Saurashtra to completely dominate Delhi.
