Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant has been fined for his team’s slow over-rate during Match 16 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Mumbai Indians at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday, April 4.
Rishabh Pant The Third Captain To Be Penalised This Season
Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant is the third skipper to be fined for slow over-rate in the IPL 2025 season. Pant joins the list comprissing of Mumbai Indians’ Hardik Pandya and Rajasthan Royals’ Riyan Parag. Pandya and Parag had also received similar fines for their respective teams’ slow over-rates earlier in the season.
Since this was his team’s inaugural offence of the season as per Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences, Pant was fined INR 12 Lakh.
Digvesh Rathi Fined for Independent Code of Conduct Offence
LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi has been fined 50 percent of his match fees in an independent offence. Rathi faced a was charge against him for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. This was his second Level 1 offence against Article 2.5 of the season and thus, he has gained Two more Demerit Points.
Rathi also gained a Demerit Point which he gained in LSG’s game against Punjab Kings. The decision of the Match Referee is final and binding in cases of Level 1 infractions of the Code of Conduct.
LSG Clinch 12-Run Win Over Mumbai Indians
While this, Lucknow Super Giants came back into winning ways with their bowlers’ spirited display leaving the visitors 12 runs behind the target. Mitchell Marsh (60 off 31) and Aiden Markram (53 off 38) set up the platform for a 200-plus score. This searing start was used to great advantage by Ayush Badoni and David Miller
The cameo-quickfire by Badoni (19-ball 30) and Miller (14-ball 27) made sure that the initial momentum was not wasted. With the ball, all Shardul Thakur, Akash Deep, Avesh Khan and Digvesh came back with a wicket to their name. While Digvesh winning the Player of the Match award for his frugal spell of 1 for 21 in four overs.
LSG will travel to Kolkata for their upcoming match against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 8 while Mumbai Indians will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru a day earlier, on April 7.
