Virat Kohli, the Indian cricket icon, has surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s feat by becoming the batsman with the most runs scored in a single year in the ODI format. The former India captain’s remarkable feat happened during a match against Sri Lanka at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium during the ongoing World Cup.

Virat Kohli’s 88-run innings from 94 balls were crucial to India’s World Cup campaign, earning him his 118th ODI score of 50 or more runs.

Kohli’s 189-run partnership with Shubman Gill laid a solid foundation for India’s bid to set a substantial total against Sri Lanka and advance to the tournament’s semi-finals. The partnership was India’s second-highest against Sri Lanka in World Cup history, trailing only Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly’s spectacular 318-run partnership in 1999.
