Indian batting prodigy Virat Kohli will make his first domestic cricket appearance in a dozen years after some initial doubts about a neck injury. Starting January 30, Kohli will be on hand for Delhi’s last group-stage Ranji Trophy game against Railways. This is a major comeback since the BCCI has required domestic play for national team selection.
Delhi head coach Sarandeep Singh relayed to DDCA president (Rohan Jaitley) and team management that Virat is open for the match against Railways,” Victoria head coach Sarandeep Singh told PTI.
During the Ranji Trophy match of Delhi with Uttar Pradesh in Ghaziabad in November 2012 Kohli’s last domestic outing took place. Kohli got 14 and 43 in the game Delhi lost six wickets. With Virender Sehwag as captain, the match also starred names such as Gautam Gambhir, Ashish Nehra, and Ishant Sharma.
In the Ranji match between Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir, India captain Rohit Sharma will under Ajinkya Rahane lead. Furthermore sure to be there is Yashasvi Jaiswal. Contrarily, Rishabh Pant will play Delhi’s next game against Saurashtra in Rajkot. Also playing for Saurashtra in the game will be Ravindra Jadeja. Pant and Kohli may not be determined to be playing together in the game against Railways, though.
Vice captain for India’s next ODI series and the ICC Champions Trophy, Shubman Gill of Punjab will face Karnataka. KL Rahul, meanwhile, will sit out the game because of an elbow problem.
New rules adopted by the BCCI stipulate that players must engage in domestic cricket for central contracts and team selection. For a few players, these rules also limit personal travel and control family presence on foreign tours to improve team discipline and performance.
