PROGRESSIVE GREAT MAHATMA GANDHI AND CRICKET

The Indian national leader was born on 2nd October, 1869, the youngest child of the Diwan of the tiny princely state of Porbandar in Gujarat. Today marks the 75th death anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’s death. After shooting Gandhi on January 30th, 1948, the greatest tragedy of our fast-paced glove is that we no longer have people like Gandhi. Gandhi’s ideals always remain a guiding light on power of Ahimsa. Great Gandhi went to London in 1888 to study law. In 1883, Gandhi was invited to legally represent Indian traders in South Africa. A great thinker and champion of the rights of the Indian community, he was a great leader as well. The annual cricket series between Parsees and the Europeans was commenced in 1882 with two matches being played in Bombay(now Mumbai) and Poona(now Pune) from 1907 to 1911, series became a trio affair when Hindu team joined in later on it became quadrangular with entry of Mohammedans in 1912. The fifth team, the rest of India, was added in 1937. Catalyst for political changes, Mahatma Gandhi was strongly against the Quadrangular and Pentagulers. Gandhi’s thoughts are relevant even in the modern day. The writer is consultant: Limca Book Of Records Exassociate Professor, University of Delhi.
