Players’ Morale Very High: Coach Zeeshan Ali

NEW DELHI: Ahead of next month’s Davis Cup World Group 1 play-off match against Denmark, there has been a huge jump in the rankings of Indian players. The team’s senior-most player Rohan Bopanna has moved up to 35th position in the doubles rankings and Ramkumar Ramanathan, who won the Tata Open title with Bopanna last week, has reached his career-best ranking of 94 in doubles. Yuki Bhambri has jumped 193 places in the rankings. Although the ranking of Danish players has also improved, but that jump is far less than the Indian players.

In this regard, Zeeshan Ali, the coach of the Indian team, said that although individual rankings do not mean much in Davis Cup, but still, due to the rise in the rankings before a big event like Davis Cup, the morale of the players are very high and I am proud of the whole Indian team. I congratulate them for this and wish you all the best.

It is worth noting that Yuki Bhambri’s ranking had dropped below a thousand at the beginning of this season and he did not play tennis for a long time due to a knee injury, but now he has jumped 193 places to 670th position. Only Prajnesh Gunneswaran has dropped seven places in the rankings and is ranked 235th in the rankings. Denmark’s Holger René is at the top of the rankings for both teams in singles. He has come in 88th place. Earlier his ranking was at 103rd place. Michael Torpegaard has improved his place to 223.
