Pat Cummins Ties Anil Kumble’s Record: Second-Highest Wickets by a Captain in IPL Season

Pat Cummins Equals Anil Kumble’s Record, Second-Highest Wicket-Taker as IPL Skipper” In the ongoing IPL 2024 season, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s captain Pat Cummins has matched Anil Kumble’s record for the second-highest wickets taken by a skipper in a single IPL season. Cummins has secured 17 wickets, equaling Kumble’s record set in the 2010 season with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

In a recent IPL 2024 Qualifier 2 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Cummins took one wicket, including that of Tom Kohler-Cadmore, achieving this milestone. However, the record for the most wickets in an IPL season as captain is still held by Shane Warne, who claimed 19 wickets in the 2008 season with Rajasthan-based franchise. During the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals, the latter won the toss and chose to field first.

Key contributions from Heinrich Klaasen (50 runs from 34 balls, 4 sixes) and Rahul Tripathi (37 runs from 15 balls, 5 fours and 2 sixes) helped Sunrisers post 175/9 on the scoreboard. Travis Head’s performance (34 runs from 28 balls, 3 fours and 1 six) was also crucial for the team.

The Rajasthan Royals’ bowling attack, led by Trent Boult and Avesh Khan, took three wickets each during their spells. In response, Rajasthan’s Yashasvi Jaiswal (42 runs from 21 balls, 4 fours and 3 sixes) and Dhruv Jurel (56 runs from 35 balls, 7 fours and 2 sixes) made valiant efforts but fell short in chasing the target. Sunrisers’ bowlers, especially Shahbaz Ahmed with 3 wickets in his four-over spell and Abhishek Sharma with 2 wickets in his four-over spell, played a key role in the team’s victory. Sunrisers Hyderabad will now face Kolkata Knight Riders in the final match of this season at Chepauk on Sunday.
