New Zealand’s Latest Squad Announcement: What Sets It Apart?

Becoming the first team to announce their players for the upcoming T20 World Cup, New Zealand has announced their 15-member men’s squad.

As per the announced squad, there are no major changes in the components of the team. Kane Williamson will lead the team for the event. Followed by inclusion of many famous players like Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult, Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell.

However, what was unique about this announcement was the way it was announced. The squad of the team was actually announced by two teenagers-Matilda and Agnus. They have already won hearts on social media.

Announcement Made by Kids

What happened was, these two children came and introduced themselves. Later, it was followed by the announcement of the squad and even asked the media, if they have any questions.

The video posted by the official blackcaps handle, has already received 6,000 likes. And has gotten 2,00,000 views as per the mint report.

The Netizens expressed their appreciation for this unique announcement and one even jokingly commented, “@BCCI, hope to see like this from your side soon not like the old orthodox type 😂🫡.”

“One comment even took a subtle dig at BCCI saying will the BCCI, do it?” the post added.

Meanwhile, New Zealand has also changed their jersey from black colour to aquamarine.

However, unlike the squad announcement, netizens were not so impressed with colour of this new jersey. And many have expressed their shock.

“Thats downright disrespectful doesn’t rep New Zealand at all.”- one user. While another commented, “It’s in the name…Black Caps. They’re not Aqua Caps or Teal Caps. I hate it. Black with silver or white trim would be better and more recognizably KIWI.”

As for the squad for 2024 T20 World cup here are the following players: Kane Williamson (C), Finn Allen, Trent Boult, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee. Travelling Reserve: Ben Sears.

As per the ICC’s data, this will be Williamson’s 6th appearance in the T20 world cup tournament.

Their first match will be against Afghanistan on June 7. Which will followed by matches against West Indies, Uganda and Papua New Guinea.
