New Zealand wrote history in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy as they scored an all-time highest total of 362/6 in Lahore. The breathtaking show broke the old record for the highest total in the history of the tournament, which was scored at the same ground in a group-stage battle between Australia and England on February 22.
Record-Breaking Innings of New Zealand
Rachin Ravindra (108) and Kane Williamson (102) headed the New Zealand led by both scoring incredible centuries. They took the team to a daunting total. Glenn Phillips (49*) and Daryl Mitchell (49) added vital late scores, taking New Zealand deep into the death overs.

This was Ravindra’s fifth ODI century, with all five tons achieved in ICC Men’s ODI tournaments. His consistency in big events further projects his growing profile in world cricket.
Previous Record and Knockout Fixture Feat
The earlier record for the tournament’s highest overall score was achieved in Lahore, when England scored 351/8 against Australia. In that game, Ben Duckett drove England’s inning with an incredible 165 before Australia chased down the target successfully at 356/5, following Josh Inglis’ unbeaten 120.
New Zealand’s 362/6 also stood as the third-highest score in an ICC tournament knockout game, solidifying their superior performance.

South Africa’s Challenge: History in Their Favor
Although New Zealand has set a challenging target, South Africa is optimistic. They have managed to pursue totals over 362 twice in ODI history. In 2016, they pursued 435 against Australia, and then another record pursuit of 372, again against Australia, the same year.
Highest successful chases in Men’s ODI history
Winning Score | Team | Opponent | Year |
438/9 | South Africa | Australia | 2006 |

364/4 | England | West Indies | 2019 |
362/1 | India | Australia | 2013 |

No other side has succeeded in pursuing a score of over 361 in ODI history, and so South Africa’s task is even more pertinent in this high-profile game.
