Mo Bobat, the Director of Cricket for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), addressed the gathering of global sporting stakeholders at the RCB Innovation Lab’s Leaders Meet India, shedding light on the team’s strategic priorities for the upcoming IPL auctions.
Bobat emphasized the importance of making smart decisions in trades and auctions to bolster the player group. He mentioned the team’s strong core of retained players and a powerful top order. The decision to release certain players was aimed at strengthening the middle order, with the addition of Cameron Green being highlighted as a fantastic move. Bobat identified Mohammad Siraj as a core part of their strategy, and supporting Siraj with additional bowling options, including overseas options, is a key priority. The team also boasts a robust core of local spinners, and Bobat anticipates their increased roles in the upcoming matches.
Delving into the innovative nature of the summit hosted by the RCB Innovation Lab, Bobat explained the initial concept behind it. The lab aims for RCB to be recognized as innovators both on and off the field.
The hybrid nature of the summit, combining high performance and business, is intentional, as Bobat believes these two aspects are interconnected. The initiative seeks to act as a catalyst for movement and change in resource allocation, support, and decision-making across sports in India.
Bobat stressed the importance of creating the right performance environment and culture for players to showcase their capabilities. He expressed commitment to a long-term project, highlighting the strong leadership with captain Faf du Plessis and experienced senior players such as Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Dinesh Karthik as key components of the team.
