Mission Olympic Cell approves Chopra’s proposal to train in Finland

The Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) approved Olympic Gold Medalist Neeraj Chopra’s petition to train in Kuortane, Finland, on Thursday.

Neeraj plans to practise in the Kuortane Olympic Training Centre in Finland while competing in various World Athletics – Gold Level championships in June. Neeraj, who just became the first Indian Javelin thrower to achieve World Number One status, would continue a similar training regimen in 2022.

MOC members also approved paddler Payas Jain’s suggestion for an advanced training camp in Taiwan, among other things.

The MOC also approved Indian table tennis stars Manika Batra and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran’s bids to bring personal coaches Aman Balgu and Raman Subramanian for several events. Sathiyan and Raman Subramanian will compete in WTT Contender Tunis, WTT Contender Zagreb, and WTT Star Contender Ljubljana, while Manika and Aman Balgu will compete in WTT Contender Zagreb and WTT Star Contender Ljubljana.

Among other things, the financial aid will cover their air travel charges, camp expenditures, boarding and lodging costs, medical insurance, and out-of-pocket allowance.

Members of the MOC also inducted rower Salman Khan into the Target Olympic Podium Scheme’s (TOPS) Development group. Salman, from Haryana’s Mewat region, won gold at the Gujarat National Games last year.
